The Misadventures of Sweetie Pie
Sweetie is the last hamster left at the pet store. A pigtailed girl comes and buys him. Sweetie Pie is happy to go outside and see the world. At his new home, the girl feeds him too much and doesn’t really play with him. She sells him to another child for a few dollars. At that house a dog keeps knocking the cage to the floor. Sweetie is scared of the big dog! Then Sweetie Pie goes to live with Cousin Sue. Cousin Sue plays with Sweetie Pie, but puts her in a plastic ball to play outside. The ball rolls down a hill and Sweetie Pie has to sleep outside alone one night. Some kids find him and take him home but the mom does not want a hamster. The kids take it in to their school to become a class pet. Over the holiday break, one boy forgets the hamster cage outside on the playground. Sweetie Pie ends up escaping and living with the squirrels. He is happy to be outside and watches the children at the school play below the tree.
I liked this book and the illustrations. This is a great book for kids of all ages.
