When I read the title I knew that this book would be about parrots in Puerto Rico. The book tells about how their number was getting smaller and smaller. I learned things like “In the 1950s, birds called pearly-eyed thrashers moved into the rainforest and tried to steal the parrots’ nesting holes.” The characters in this book are the parrots and the scientists who try to help and save them. Some of the parrots do get saved! Looking at some of the illustrations made me feel sorry for the parrots. The pictures are very bright and beautiful. The pictures are made like collages of different colored paper and fabric so I like looking at them. My favorite part of this book is when the scientists figured out how to save the parrots. “People had nearly caused the parrots to become extinct. Now people started to help the parrots stay alive.” I think that big kids would especially like this book Parrots Over Puerto Rico. This book has lots and lots of good and interesting facts about…parrots!
