Max usually is with his uncle because his dad is gone most always. He climbs a tree at his granddaddy’s house and hears someone crying behind him. He investigates, and finds the ghost of his great-great-uncle Larry. Larry is a ghost because he wasn’t a very good detective, so he died of a broken heart and came back as a ghost. Max is good at solving mysteries because he reads mystery books. They need to help a magician find a girl he made disappear. The magician worried because the girl’s mom is coming home any minute and he might be fired and arrested. Max’s uncle Larry helps twice in the mystery, but the rest was Max.

I like this book because Max’s uncle is very funny and Max finds out the mystery. The pictures are also very funny. My favorite parts were when Uncle Larry went through things. The girl they were looking for was named Daisy, and I liked it when they found her because she had marshmallow gumbo on her face. I hope I can get the next book in this series because I actually liked it.
