I Was Made For You

We rated this book:

You’ll be wrapped up in this story of a stuffed cat discovering his purpose. In “I Was Made for You”, a knit cat unravels his way through the forest asking the objects around him why he was made. Everyone answers what their purpose is and it’s only in the end that the cat realizes he was made for a little girl, Daisy.

The pictures reminded me of the video game “Unravel” as the yarn trails behind the cat and his body slowly disappears. The illustrations have a very crafty feel reminding me of embroidery hoops and quilts.

This would be a sweet gift to go along with a homemade present for a young child. The language is repetitive and soothing, but the concept of “why was I made” seems a little abstract for younger readers and the message wasn’t entirely clear to me even at ten years old. Kids that enjoy imaginative stories with talking steps and snow may enjoy this tale, but those that prefer a more realistic and straightforward story might want something else at bedtime.
