Whispers of the Wolf
Two Birds is out in the fields with his grandfather when he hears a howling noise. It is a wolf puppy, stuck in a hole. The grandfather thinks the pup may not survive, but Two Birds rescues it, feeds it and keeps it warm; he hunts for him with his friend Gray Bear, but does not let any of his friends hold him until he’s strong and healthy. Two Birds shows his abilities to hunt, and earns the respect of the older boys. They invite him and the wolf to run with them.. It’s his first time and he loves it.
The boy and the wolf grow up so close that Two Birds feels like the wolf speaks to him. Great stories come to his mind and all his friends start asking for the stories. One night Two Birds wakes up and feels the wolf howling. There is loneliness in the howling. He turns and sees the wolf looking at his rope. The wolf is asking to be set free. Two Birds is heartbroken but respects his wishes, and sets him free. He’s sad but still has friends to say stories to.
I liked this book because I liked the story of the boy rescuing the wolf. I was a bit bored with the story of all the friends.
