We Are Family
This book talks about what families do together and about what they do for each other. Families may look very different, with young parents and older parents or grandparents, two mommies or two daddies, but they all do the same things. They wake up together in the morning, they eat together, which may happen in different places, and they get out of the door together, eager to find out what’s going to happen with the new day. They travel together, they play outside together, they help each other out when something bad happens, like a broken bike, or when they are sick. And at night everyone is tucked in bed under the same roof. I thought this book was sweet, but it did not excite me too much. [Note from mom: the multiracial, multi-gender, multi-age message was not too exciting to my young child–it was just taken for granted. This affected his approach to the book, whose inclusivity was not perceived as particularly different or new.]
