Waiting for High Tide

This story is about a child who is at the beach with his parents and grandma, waiting for the high tide to come. Usually he gets bored waiting, but today they are going to build a raft.

He finds all sorts of treasures in the dirt: shells, shellfish, and even a pair of broken plastic glasses covered in barnacles – which he calls barnacle glasses. So he plays with those while the adults build the raft, from logs that were lined up and get chopped and cleaned. They then cut notches into them, and start tying them together with ropes. At some point they have a picnic, while the gulls also eat seashells by breaking them against the rocks. After eating, they keep working on the raft. When it is ready, but the tide is not, the child gets very impatient and starts pushing the heavy raft toward the water. He works really hard and eventually succeed, so they all jump on and start floating away… until they decide to jump in and swim.

The story in the book was quite fun but it went a little slow and I lost a little bit of interest in the middle of it.
