The Skydiving Beavers: A True Tale
This is really a great story! I can’t believe it actually happened for real! In a small city a long time ago, people started to have trouble with beavers, and beavers were having trouble with people. The beavers were disturbed in their habitat by cars and swimmers in the lake. The people were having a hard time with floods caused by the beavers’ dams. How to solve the problem? A guy named Elmo knew what the beavers needed and knew of a place that would be perfect for them. The problem was how to move the beavers, and he thought of skydiving them over. He worked very long on a project for a box that would keep them safe–but that they could not chew on before landing–and that would open by itself upon landing. He ran lots of experiments with the box and a beaver called Geronimo. It worked the first time, and it worked over and over again. So his team created a bunch of boxes and parachutes and a big group of beavers were moved that way. I think this was a brilliant project, and one day I want to be able to invent something like that.
