The Adventurers Guild
After the outside world falls to Dangers, Freestone is one of the last cities still intact. On the day of Guildculling, all of the town goes to the center of Freestone to watch their children be chosen by the various guilds, such as the Healing Guild, the Servants Guild, the Knights Guild, the Scribes Guild, and so on. Zed Kagari and Brock Dunderfel are best friends, though they are very different. This year, it is their turn to be chosen. Brock wishes to join the Merchants, like his father. Zed desperately hopes to join the Mages Guild, which is the guild for wizards. Their fate changes when they are both picked by the Adventurers Guild, which is respected, but not beloved. With their new-found friends, they realize that Freestone is in danger, and now they must protect it, whatever the cost.
I really like this book because it is an adventure story mixed in with a mystery story, and it’s also full of magic. It is chock-full of wizards, elves, dwarves, monsters, spells, and mystery. This is sort of a post-apocalyptic book because, years ago, monsters suddenly started coming into the peaceful world where humans, dwarves, and elves lived happily together. They destroyed everything except the few cities that could defend themselves. These monsters are kind of scary. If that bothers you, you may not want to read it. Also, two of the characters argue a lot. I don’t mind this, but you might. In general, though, this story is completely and utterly awesome. This beautifully written book will be on your favorite books list the moment you finish the first page.
