My Neighbor Totoro: A Novel
If you have ever seen the Totoro movie you are probably already a fan of Hayao Miyazaki. This Japanese novel tells the story of two sisters, Satsuki and Mei, who find a forest spirit whose name is Totoro. When Mei goes missing, Satsuki will go to any length to find her little sister. The story follows the movie pretty well and includes the whimsical setting and magical characters despite being written by Tsugiko Kubo. It does, however, include plenty of drawings by Hayao Miyazaki throughout the book.
At first glance, this book is hard to not pick up. The cover features the Totoro and sisters we love and it is broken into ten chapters. The font is bigger than most novels and means it is an easy read for all ages. This story easily grabs hold of your imagination and pulls you into their vividly created world. You will feel as if you really know the sisters and that Totoro is your new favorite friend. If you are looking for an easy and fun read, you will definitely want to get your hands on this book!
