Something to Say
Something to Say is the relatable story of a young black girl named Jenae who is afraid to speak up and has no friends. Then one day Jenae meets Aubrey, a black boy with fire engine red hair who keeps on trying to be her friend even though Jenae keeps pushing him away. After a while, Jenae actually starts getting used to having Aubrey around. Jenae’s teacher gives everybody a project where they have to debate a topic and Aubrey chose Jenae to debate against. Aubrey really wants to win so that he can be on the debate club but Jenae worries that her newfound friendship is going to come to an end. Buy the book to find out if Jenae can conquer her fear and save her friendship.
I enjoyed Something to Say. It is a great read especially for people who often feel alone, who let their fears hold them back, and are scared to try something new. This story may help give you a boost of confidence and inspire you to face your fear. I think that children seven years and older might really like this book because we all have something to say, sometimes we just need a little help saying it!
