Do you like growing things? If you do, you’ll love this book. It’s all about a garden. It’s more exciting than it sounds. It’s about a boy and his father. Every morning they put on stinky shoes and dirty shirts and go out into the garden.. They grow squash, corn, beans, and many more things. They have a dog names Snuffles who likes to roll in the compost pile. The father eats raw onions from the ground and they make his breath smell bad! They are hoping that smelly shoes, smelly breath, and a very smelly dog will help keep the critters away. Every night they have a family dinner with vegetables picked from the garden. The purple tomatoes are so sweet that the dessert is almost unwanted.

This book was really nice and fresh, and even on the coldest winter day will remind you of spring. The pictures are so colorful, with so many different shades of green. This book is good for readers who are comfortable with words like crookneck squash, basil, and scarecrow. But little kids will love the colorful images too. Whether you are a gardener or not, you’ll probably still like this book.
