Oona Finds an Egg (The Oodlethunks #1)
Oona Oodlethunk really needs a pet, to cuddle and feed and take care of. When she finds a gigantic egg that might hatch into Something Cute, you can imagine her joy. But it’s not easy to care for it. Oh, of course it doesn’t need to eat or drink, but both her brother and Bruce Brute want it for themselves. Oona loves her egg, and that’s why she’s so sad when it goes missing.
This book is set in prehistoric times, which is why I really like it. Even though it’s long ago, they go to school and invent things like pillows and earmuffs. They’re cavemen, but they’re civilized. Even though the egg might hatch into something that might gobble Oona up, like a raptor, she still loves it and takes care of it. This is a chapter book, but it also has pictures, which is nice because they give you an idea of what the characters look like. Some of the illustrations show other details, like a recipe for Vulture Vittles, the meals her Dad bakes, and the family rules. This book is fascinating and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.
