My Name Is Aviva (Life Cycle)
My name is Aviva is about a little girl who wants to change her name. Her name is Aviva, but she changes it to Emily, because the kids in her class never call her the right name. She told her mom that she does not want to be called Aviva anymore. While helping her mom make soup, sewing buttons, reading books, and looking at the stars, Aviva learns that her mom’s grandmother, Ada, was the one who taught her mom about all those things. She found out that Grandma Ada was very strong, caring, and special woman. Aviva was named after her Great-Grandmother Ada, whose Hebrew name was Aviva. This made Aviva love her name.
I loved My name is Aviva because Aviva was named after her great-grandmother. I am also named after my great-grandmothers who I have never met. Like Aviva, they died before I was born. I think it is special to be named after a family member. I didn’t really like the illustrations, they were not my favorite. I wish they were more detailed. I think kids would really like this book if they were also named after relatives.
