Karate Kakapo
A one-hundred-percent absolute must-read! Kakapo is a chubby green flightless bird that loves Karate. Kakapo works hard and perseveres to earn her belts. Only one thing stands in her way for her final black belt: the flying side kick. There is only one problem, no matter how hard Kakapo tries, she can’t fly, and she can’t complete a flying side kick because Kakapos are unable to fly. Will the sensei ask her to do something she is unable to do? What will Kakapo do?
Kakapo masters everything and is able to do a running jumping side kick to earn her belt. Even though it seems impossible, Kakapo persisted and worked hard. She shows us that even if one thing seems impossible, maybe you could think of it another way in order to be successful. This book has lovely muted illustrations, but they really capture the beauty of the bright green, chubby, flightless birds from New Zealand. The book is also fun to read because of the variety of birds practicing at the dojo. This book is perfect to help children learn about Karate and birds! The small Kakapo is hilarious, and I think children would enjoy reading this with their families.
