Jacob’s Room to Choose
Jacob’s Room to Choose is about a boy named Jacob who likes to wear a dress to school. Jacob gets chased out of the bathroom by some boys. They think he’s a girl, just because of how he dresses. Jacob’s friend Sophie is having the same problem because she has short hair and wears pants. When their teacher finds out how the other students are treating Jacob and Sophie, she tells the class that they need to treat others with respect.
Jacob’s Room to Choose is the sequel to Jacob’s New Dress. After I got Jacob’s Room to Choose to review, I decided to read Jacob’s New Dress at the library. Both are really good books. I think it is important for other kids to read Jacob’s Room to Choose so that they can learn that you need to treat others with respect, no matter how they dress or look. I would recommend reading Jacob’s Room to Choose in classrooms that are having problems with students treating others with respect, or in a class where there are students who choose to wear clothes that are different from their gender, or in a class that has kids who are transgender. It will help the class to start talking about these issues. I think Jacob’s Room to Choose should be available in all school libraries.
