Ishi, Simple Tips from a Solid Friend
Ishi is a book that gives simple emotional life tips in a fun way. Ishi is a rock that goes to many places in the story, including a compost bin, a bed, the sink, and other spots. At the beginning of the book there is an information page about Ishi that consists of his birthday, Facebook page, and blog. He goes through lessons about how to skillfully deal with challenging feelings page by page. For example, one page says, “When I feel stinky,” with a picture of Ishi in the compost bin. On the next page, Ishi continues, “I treat myself to something sweet.” Alongside is a picture of Ishi with some orange slices. I like the photos and I have never seen a book illustrated this way. This book is calming for me. I think it would be soothing for most kids ages five through eleven. This book could be good for kids with many interests, but especially kids that are interested in meditation. My favorite feature of this book is that is good for a lot of ages.
