Have Courage, Be Kind: The Tale of Cinderella

This book is a retelling of Cinderella, only in a longer story. In this story, Cinderella starts out with her mother, and you get to know her mother, but when she’s like thirteen her mother dies, after telling her to have courage and be kind. Then her dad gets married again. Her stepmother is not as rude in the book as it showed in the movie, but she and her daughters treat Cinderella like a servant and are very rude to her all the time. One day, Cinderella rides her horse into the forest and makes friends with a young man named Kit. Finally it’s the night of the ball, and the stepsisters ruin her dress and she meets her fairy godmother, and of course you know the rest. It was nice that the story was different in some ways from the Disney movie. You got to know Cinderella and her family better in this book. There were a few pictures, not very many, but they were a nice addition to the book. Cinderella fans will like this new retelling.
