Happy Birthday, Alice Babette is about a lady named Alice who lives in Paris with her friend Gertrude. Alice wakes up one morning and it is her birthday. Gertrude doesn’t even mention her birthday so Alice goes off on her own for the day to do things she likes in Paris, like ride the carousel. While Alice is gone, Gertrude plans a fancy birthday meal, cake and poem for Alice. But Gertrude is not a good cook and burns everything, but she is able to write Alice a beautiful poem. Alice comes home and helps clean the mess. Gertrude invites all of Alice’s friends over to help her celebrate.

I liked Happy Birthday, Alice Babette. It was neat to find out that it is based on two real women who lived together in Paris. I thought it was really nice of Gertrude to make Alice her favorite meal for her birthday, even if she did burn it. It was a nice for her to do something for her friend. The illustrations were really pretty and gave lots of things to look at. I think other kids would enjoy Happy Birthday, Alice Babette.
