Genevieve’s War tells the story of a girl on vacation from New York, visiting her grandmother in Alsace, France, and it takes place in the year 1939, right before WW2 is about to break out. Dangerous times are coming, and Genevieve’s grandmother urges her to go home, but right before Gen is supposed to leave, her grandmother breaks her leg. Genevieve makes the brave and daring decision to stay in France to help her grandmother with the farm. Everything goes well until the Nazis invade the town, and an officer even decides to bunk in their house. Now they have to share the house and food with him. At the same time, many things happen inside the town. Her friend Remy is in terrible danger, and Grandmother and Genevieve decide against all odds to hide the rebel in the attic of their house, right above the officer’s room!!

I loved this book because it gave me a great overview of how life was in World War 2. Even though this is a difficult subject, I think it’s important to learn and read about it so something like this never happens again.

It was a very fast-paced and exciting story. Kids nine and up would probably enjoy this story!
