From Wolf to Woof
From Wolf to Woof! is about the time before humans kept dogs as pets. Dog evolved from wild wolves. The wolves roamed around in families called packs. In this myth, there is an orphaned wolf pup who longs to be part of a pack. He decides to guard the wolf pack from attack at night, so they will accept him. One night, he sees a human child and howls a warning to the other wolves that there are humans near. To quiet the wolf, the child throws the hungry wolf pup a bone. Over time, the wolf pup becomes allies with the boy because he realizes he can eat more often when paired with the boy.
Eventually, other misfits joined their “pack”, resulting in a benefit to all the humans and wolf pups involved. As humans changed from hunters to farmers, wolves became dogs along with them.
I love how the pictures show the journey of the wolves becoming dogs. At first, they are very fierce, with sharp teeth and yellow eyes. Then, over time, they become the soft, sweet-eyed dogs we all love to call our pets!
