Years ago, everyone had unlimited magic, with no cost. But then, humans used too much magic, and the earth started to crumble. Real magic is now forbidden. It’s dangerous, painful, illegal…but, for Aza, necessary. Since her sister died, she has to use it to bring in enough cash to pay the gang that controls the Tea Sector, or bad things happen. So when Aza discovers a secret casting competition, she enters, to win the prize. But Aza isn’t the only one who wants to win. There are forty-nine other fighters and some of them will stop at nothing to succeed. Can Aza really make it out alive?
This is an excellent book. It has an intricate world, a maddening cliffhanger, and heart-pounding excitement. And while I feel the heroine makes really bad choices sometimes, it makes it even more thrilling (and a little frustrating). Lots of twists! But, sadly, I would not recommend this book to anyone under eleven. There’s a lot of violent magic, often with gruesome details. Obviously, there’s death. If you like dystopian action, you’ll enjoy it. Trust me. Buy the book, sit back, and let it cast you into a fascinating, terrifying, exhilarating world!
