A Brief History of Life on Earth
A Brief History of Life on Earth is a giant, unfolding timeline on
one side and a picture book on the other side. When it’s folded out,
it’s the length of a triceratops. The unfolding part is fun, but it’s pretty messy. Unless you have a mansion, the book folded out doesn’t
fit easily in a room.
The picture book side is like you are traveling through time. The book describes where in time you are and what the landscape looks like more than what happened during each eon. They label creatures by name but do not give much information about them. I’d like to know more.
The illustrations of each age are really good, but the size of the creatures don’t seem proportional. I like the drawing for the Jurassic period the best. The creatures are cute. There is just a
paragraph for each age. I felt like I wanted more. It didn’t seem like
enough.
The timeline side is simpler. There are little ticks on the line with one phrase descriptions of what happened then. There are a lot of blank pages, but hey, you can’t rush time!
I learned a lot! I think this book would be good for elementary school kids.
