Around America to Win the Vote
Nell Richardson and Alice Burke were traveling around America to win the right for women to vote. On the way, they did come across some problems. There was a blizzard, a muddy road, and when their map was unclear, they got lost in Arizona. The plot definitely kept my interest. I liked how the author gave small sections of information about separate states, like passing peaceful fields in North Carolina, eating all yellow food in South Carolina, and joining a parade in Georgia. The illustrations were very unrealistic, but they were neat to look at because they were drawn colorfully and brightly. I think the illustrator has an interesting style. It’s fascinating how the author takes information from actual old articles and magazines and turns them into a book. There was not a lot of dialogue, and I would have liked more, but the details about other things made up for it. It’s nice how the author turned history into a fun book, giving little pieces of information that wouldn’t usually be included in a history textbook. I believe that anyone could read this book because it has a captivating topic and attractive illustrations.
