Writing With Rosie: You Can Write a Story Too
In this book, the author gives you experiences of how she has written her books. Patricia Riley Giff is a very well-known author of children’s books and has written a lot of them, so she knows what she is talking about. She gives suggestions for how to come up with characters and make them seem realistic. For example, she listens to children talking to each other at the park so she can make her characters talk like they do. Sometimes she creates characters based on people from her childhood and then changes them as they go along. As a kind of little mini-story, she interrupts what she is talking about to tell you about what her dog, Rosie, is doing; this illustrates what she is talking about. She talks about how readers generally like a faster-paced plot with a lot of action, so it isn’t boring. Every once in a while she has you stop and try out what she has been talking about. This book is very helpful for learning how to write a story, and it is fairly engaging, too. This would be a good book for anyone looking for ideas of how to write a story.
