Tucky Jo and Little Heart
When Johnnie Wallen was young, his parents lied and said he was older so that he could go fight in WWII. Tucky Jo and Little Heart is his true story of his time as a soldier in the Pacific. He missed home and one day when he was out on patrol in the jungle, he found a little girl and called her Little Heart, because of a heart birthmark on her arm. She showed him a plant to pick to help his bug bites. They became friends and he helped the people in her village get food. Tucky Jo found out that Little Heart’s mother had been killed and her father and brother taken. The only word she would speak was his name, Tucky Jo. One day, the enemy lit a fire in the jungle and Tucky Jo saved Little Heart. That was the last time he saw his Little Heart.
I loved Tucky Jo and Little Heart because it was a true story. Even though they didn’t speak the same language, they still helped and loved each other. This book was very long but had lots of description and we couldn’t stop reading. I would picture everything in my mind. I think others would love this book.
