The Popcorn Astronauts: And Other Biteable Rhymes
This is a book of a lot of poems. Most of them are pretty fun. A lot of them are about food, like there is a poem about the Strawberry Queen. It talks about a strawberry like it was a person. There is one which says you can swim in a lake made out of a watermelon and ride on little black boats, which are the watermelon seeds. The poem about the popcorn astronauts is talking like popcorn are astronauts, because they get into their puffy white suits, then they go up in the air and then go down, which is when you cook human popcorn. There’s one about guacamole, and one about a disgusting smoothie made with things like fish scum and other really gross things like snail slime and a pickle. In “The Cocoa Cabana,” all these skaters go there because you can have peppermint cocoa after you’re ice skating. The pictures are really fun because they make you see what the comparisons are and what the poems mean. There are lots of animals and foods that have faces, and they are really fun. I like this book, and other people who like poetry will like it too!
