Max Murphy and his cousin Lola have just found Lola’s parents when Ah Pukah, the Mayan god of death, tries to make Max and Lola promise to help him in whatever he does. Max is fooled, but Lola isn’t. So, since Ah Pukah can’t get Lola to agree to help him, he decides to take Max and Lola’s parents hostage until they agree. Now Max and Lola have to find and rescue their parents as well as stop Ah Pukah from destroying the world. They journey from Central America all the way to the mystical land of Cahokia before they are through.

This is the last book of the series, and you will feel like you have missed a lot if you haven’t read the others in the series, but it is not hard to pick up on what’s going on if you start with this one. The characters are likeable; they were all very enthusiastic and optimistic that Max and Lola would succeed. Max and Lola found good solutions to their problems and kept trying even when things were hard. Their adventure was very exciting, full of action, and hard to forget, as well as being very funny!
