The Islands of Chaldea
The cover alone will have you picking this book up to see what it is about. Don’t let the size of this book decide if you’ll read it or not because the font is nice and big and double spaced and perfect for young readers who are just starting to read chapter books and are looking for a good book that is full of adventure. The Islands of Chaldea is a fantasy based book that rather reminded me of Treasure Planet meets Merlin and filled with magic, a quest, and some no-good people. Like Merlin, Aileen is lacking confidence and trying to find her importance in life, which can be hard when your mentor, in this case her Aunt Beck, who is the wise old woman that she really wants to be.
This book taught me about team work, because they must work together to try and break the barrier that keeps the islands separated. About not trusting everybody, because some people will try to prevent you from doing good things. And, about being challenged and finding confidence to overcome what scares us and completing what we start. I would definitely tell my friends they need to read this book!
