The House of Chalice
Lia is just an ordinary baker’s daughter, until she goes to pick berries in the woods and is chosen to be the new king’s bride. That is not the biggest surprise in store for her that day; at the king’s coronation, the king is killed by his brother and Lia barely escapes. She meets Vartan, prince from the neighboring kingdom, who helps her escape, and they begin to develop feelings for each other. But when Lia discovers Vartan is already engaged, and his fiancée tries to have her assassinated, she has to reassess her emotions while fighting for her life. There is also the vicious curse in Vartan’s homeland that has a royal family in its grip, and it seems that she might be the only one able to destroy it.
I enjoyed the perky atmosphere and intriguing characters in The House of Chalice. The twists and surprises of plot were fascinating! Lia was a strong, talented character. I loved watching her overcome challenges and obstacles. I hope to read the next in the series.
