The Dumbest Idea Ever!
“The Dumbest Idea Ever! by Jimmy Gownley is a slightly revised story about his own childhood.
It starts at an interview, where a reporter is asking thirteen year old Jimmy where he got his comic book ideas. Jimmy then goes into great detail and tells the whole story about how he goes to an all Catholic school in Girardville, Pennsylvania, with six churches, seventeen bars, and no libraries.
Even though he’s never liked school, he’s popular, smart, and a star athlete. But he gives it all away when he starts writing his own comic books. His nun teachers are tough, thinks that comic books and graphic novels aren’t real, won’t let him read them, and never gives him 100% score because “only God’s perfect.”
Right before a big game, Jimmy gets sick; he later is diagnosed with pneumonia and can’t go to school, his grades fail, and his team is counting on him.
I give 5 stars to this wondrous and thoughtful story, great for girls and boys from ages about 9-12.
