Stranger Things: Runaway Max

This book is the prequel to the story of Max, a character from the series, Stranger Things. Max has moved to Indiana and is doing her best to accept her new home and deal with some difficult family issues that include an older stepbrother who is aggressive and angry much of the time. When she makes some new friends she is so much happier and looks forward to a brighter future. Since I haven’t seen the series, everything about Max is new information for me and that makes her a very interesting character. Some of the stories about Max were exciting and really developed who Max is and how she came to be where she currently is. There was also good character development about some of her family members, especially her older brother. I did feel like I was missing some important information because I have not seen the series. The book is clear and well written in a style that everyone can understand although there are topics of abuse and bullying that are disturbing. I recommend the book for Stranger Things fans and teens over the age of fourteen who like learning more about individual people’s lives and personal stories.
