Joseph lives in the west and his horse is the best thing in his life after his mom, dad and sister died. But then, his guardian sells her and he knows he must get his horse back. Joseph meets a Chinese boy whose name is Ah-Kee. He and Ah-kee face many surprising encounters including a bear that is calmed by Chinese, a crook, and an uncompromising cheater. Joseph eventually catches up to the crook and gets his horse back, when his horse gets shot and he needs to have her healed. After she is okay, he goes to a family that he met along the way and stays with them.

I liked this book because it had a boy about my age in it and it had a lot of funny adventures in it. I also liked that it had a good story and that the character stayed very mobile most of the time, so that you could read about a lot of places. I also liked that it had animals like horses and bears. I also liked that it ended happily like most books, because I like happy ending books.
