Shinji Takahashi travels the world with his Aunt Yui on their ship the Good Tern, finding rare artifacts and treasures for her business. But one day when they are visiting the small village of Abenge in Africa, Shinji comes across an idol in a dusty shop at the edge of the market, not realizing the power that it holds. He’s captured by the Hightower Corporation, who want to use the relic for their own sinister purposes, but the relic turns itself into a tattoo— the Mark of the Coatl. Shinji, with the help of his friend Lucy and her robot mouse Tinker, must return the Coatl to its rightful place before Hightower gets their hands on it— or risk losing the Coatls’ magic forever. I liked this book because it was fast-paced and exciting, making every page an adventure! It was rich with a lot of myths and lore connected to Mesoamerica, tying in well with the characters and how they fit into the storyline. I really liked the characters from the Society of Explorers and Adventurers and Lucy, whose powers I thought were cool. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a rich, myth-woven adventure!
