Devlin Quick loves mysteries. Her mom is the NY City Chief of Police, and she has learned a lot about sleuthing from her mom and friends at the police department. Devlin is on summer vacation in Martha’s Vineyard with her good friend Booker and his cousin Zee. While on the beach one day, collecting water for a summer project she has for school, Devlin comes across what she thinks is a gold doubloon, a pirate treasure. Now, along with Booker and Zee, Devlin is trying to solve the mystery of the gold doubloon and the possible treasure of the pirate Lemeur Kyd.

Filled with facts about pirates, sharks, and the history of Martha’s Vineyard, this book is a must-read. I loved how even though Zee is much younger than Devlin and Booker, they still listen to all of the information he knows about pirates. Their adventure keeps the story interesting while still letting you learn a lot of new things you might not have known, like the difference between the pirates Captain Kidd and Lemeur Kyd (even though they were both pirates who, legend tells, hid their treasures along the East Coast).
