Our Italian Christmas Eve
Our Italian Christmas Eve is a bit different than my Christmas Eve. The authors Danielle and Francesco Sedita write about their experiences on Christmas Eve being part of an Italian family at Aunt Babe’s house. One big difference is the food prepared and eaten by all the family members – the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Other dishes include struffoli, the many kinds of seafood (octopus, calamari, codfish), and bignolati – they all make me hungry! The family ends the night by going to midnight Mass and relaxing after a busy and yummy evening.
I enjoyed learning about Our Italian Christmas Eve, I wasn’t aware of the Italian culture with the food they prepare and I learned about Mass. I loved the bright colors in the illustrations and how the whole family got together and had a great time, even though it looked busy and loud. I loved how everyone kept a smile on their face. Kids of any age will enjoy this story because they will learn something and have fun watching Danielle and Francesco save the dinner. One note – I wish there was something at the end that explained what each dish was and a definition of the Italian words said in the story.
