Oliver is a young boy from New York City. His mother passed away on his 13th birthday, and he is is often mad because he is sad about his mom dying. Oliver was very close to his mom, and he has trouble getting along with his dad and his sister. The only friends that Oliver really has are Franklin and Samantha. Oliver and his friends tend to get into a lot of mischief–sometimes they even do things that are illegal. They get caught snooping at the library, at the new counselor’s office at school, and they even break into someone’s house. Since Oliver had been getting into so much trouble, he had to go to the new counselor at school. The kids do not like the new counselor because they think she is mean, so they call her the “witch.”

This is a story of how a young boy deals with his sadness and the things that go on in his life. It is a good book in describing how to deal with feelings and with family when you are going through a hard time. It was a very sad book because the author does a good job of describing how Oliver is feeling.
