Leafy Landmarks: Travels with Trees
Leafy Landmarks: Travels with Trees is a book about trees and poems. A family of four travels across the United States to see special trees that stand out for various reasons. To explain each one, the family includes poems styled differently to match each tree. The family learns that while each tree they traveled long distances to see is beautiful and matters, they will also find the same beauty and appreciation within trees a lot closer, like their front yard.
Because Leafy Landmarks isn’t much of a story in words and is more educational with facts, it wasn’t my favorite read. I don’t think that the book’s purpose is about the story, but more so to teach the reader about trees and the different types of poems; its purpose is clear and helpful for readers looking into those topics. I learned more—there are so many trees and poems in existence! Leafy Landmarks might not be the best for younger readers, but those in middle school and older will probably enjoy and understand it the best.
