Kingfisher Readers L5: The Changing Environment (Kingfisher Readers. Level 5)
On the cover of the book there is a dump truck, the earth, parrots, and coral. These show our environment and this book will tell about change. The table of contents has titles like “wonderful world,” “climate change,” and “conservation challenge.” I like reading about the Amazon rainforest. The illustrations are both photographs and paintings. The colors are bold like the pictures of the coral and the parrots. I learned about different animal species: invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Did you know that “areas of similar climates are called biomes”? My favorites are coral reefs, polar, and mountains. There is also information on weather and seasons, natural resources, and disappearing habitats. I like that glossary with words like “toxic,” “atmosphere,” “global warming,” and “nuclear power.” (I already knew the word “toxic.” I told my mom, “When I tease you it might be a toxic or poisonous friendship.”) Everyone needs to reuse and recycle. “Remember – our environment is amazing. We must all do our part to keep it that way!” This is a good book for big kids who like to learn about science.
