Hurricane Child
Caroline Murphy’s life has never been easy. She was even born in the middle of a terrible hurricane. Her mom and dad nicknamed her the Hurricane Child. In the book, she is a twelve-year-old girl who goes to private school and doesn’t have many friends. Caroline usually eats lunch alone until she makes friends with a girl named Kalinda. Kalinda is one of the few friends that Caroline has, and she moves away in the story. Caroline’s mother also leaves her when she abandons Caroline and her father unexpectedly. Caroline is strong and brave when her mother leaves, and she works hard to forgive her mother when she comes back into Caroline’s life.
Even though this story has a lot of very sad parts, it is also encouraging. Even when bad things are happening, it shows that you can make it through even though it hurts. Caroline always tries to stay positive and do her best. The book also shows that it is important to find a good role model, even if it isn’t your mother or father. Caroline found that her principal was a good person for her to be around because the principal helped her deal with her feelings.
