This is a graphic novel that introduces us to 11-year old Alanna and her older brother Hamel. They have lost their parents and so Hamel has to provide for the family by blacksmithing although he doesn’t really like doing so. When Alanna stumbles upon a nursery chamber of dragon eggs, Alanna decides to make a dragon outfit and pretend to be their mother because she thinks they have no parents and she wants the dragons to grow up knowing the difference between humans and dragons. There is a bad person who wants to kill dragons, Sir Cedric. When he finds out about the nursery chamber he wants to destroy all of the eggs. But then he sees that the eggs are marbled with silver and his greed keeps him from destroying them because he hopes that a mother dragon will keep coming back to this cave to lay more eggs. There is one more person, the mysterious Margolyn, who goes around the globe studying dragons. Their paths all cross as they all, except for Sir Cedric, try to save the dragons.

The book started slowly but by the end I was hoping for a second volume.
