Christmas in America (Ellis the Elephant)
Ellis is a cute little elephant who likes to learn things. In this book, Ellis is excited to see how people have celebrated Christmas in America through the years. Ellis celebrates with settlers at sea on their way to Jamestown; New England colonists; George Washington during his crossing of the Delaware; Lewis and Clark on their voyage of discovery; through several wars; and even with the astronauts on the Apollo 8 mission.
The story is written in rhymes that will be fun for children who are not very old. They will probably like seeing the pictures about the different parts of history of the United States if they are interested in United States history. The pictures are also very cute; Ellis is a really cute elephant and all the people look friendly and cheerful. One of the pictures shows a pioneer family next to a church and a Nativity scene, with Ellis wearing a big cowboy hat. In another one he is wearing a space suit with the astronauts! It is funny to see how Ellis dresses like the people he is with. They all seem to be having a good time celebrating Christmas together.
