Beast Rider
Beast Rider is the story of a boy named Manuel, who wants to ride the train (AKA “The Beast”) to leave his home in Mexico to go to Los Angeles to see his brother, who had left Mexico a few years before to find a better life. Manuel knows that this is very dangerous in many ways, because he may get caught by the polis, fall off the train, get robbed, or even get beaten up.
Beast Rider follows Manuel on his long, difficult journey across the Mexico-US border and highlights the struggles faced by those who choose to leave their homes in search of a new life in the US. Manuel’s ride on The Beast was not the end of his problems; he still had to learn to live in the US.
I think it is important for kids to read this book because it teaches a valuable lesson: don’t let anything get in your way in order to live the life you want.
I liked this book very much because it was very interesting and quick to read. Even my mom loved it! I would definitely recommend this book!
