After the Shot Drops is a great book about friendship between two teenage boys. This book is about Bunny and Nasir trying to get their friendship back after Bunny changes schools for a basketball scholarship. Nasir feels left behind and ditched by his best friend, so he starts hanging out with his cousin Wallace and trying to help him out. Ultimately Nasir must choose what matters most as he risks helping Wallace permanently damage Bunny’s future. The story is told from the perspectives of Bunny and Nasir, which really helps you get to know the characters well. Other characters are also strong and interesting. The story is very interesting and the plot and action keep you reading. The dialogue is very well written and makes you feel like you are there listening to the conversation. I liked that the adults are also talked about and that they are loving and interested in the kids. The language of this book is clearly meant for teens, so I recommend this book for anyone 13 and over. Even those who don’t like sports will really enjoy this book. It helps us learn about caring and compassion and the value of having strong friends and family on your side.
