Adopting a Dinosaur

Adopting a Dinosaur is about a little girl named Ali who wants a pet, so she asks her parents to get her a dog, a cat, a turtle, and the list goes on and on. Every day she asks for a different pet, and for every pet she asks for, her parents tell her no. One day, she a finds a gigantic egg in the park, and she decides to take it home. Ali takes care of the gigantic egg all week until it hatches. Guess what pops out? A dinosaur! Ali asks her parents if she can have a pet dinosaur, and they tell her she can have a dinosaur if she can find one because they think that it would be impossible for her to find a dinosaur. When Ali shows her baby dino to her parents, they decide to keep their word, and they let her keep the baby dinosaur. Ali is happy to have her new pet, and she takes him to the park, where they play with the other children until the dinosaur hears a familiar sound. Soon, two adult dinosaurs appear and start licking the baby dinosaur because they are happy to see their baby. The baby dinosaur leaves with his parents, and Ali’s home seems empty without him. Her parents offer her different pets to help her feel better, but she no longer wants just any pet. She is happy to get visits from her baby dinosaur.

I recommend Adopting a Dinosaur to children ages ten and younger because I think that many kids enjoy a good dinosaur story. This story was fun for me to read because I am just like Ali. I am always asking my parents to get me a pet; maybe I can help hatch an egg and keep whatever type of animal comes out! This story teaches readers that it is important to be a good friend and make the right decision to support others, even if it sometimes makes us sad; that is what it means to really love someone else, just like Ali loves her baby dinosaur.
