Addie Bell’s Shortcut to Growing Up
If you’ve ever wished you were older than you are, you will LOVE this book! Addie wishes on a magic box and becomes four years older overnight, but she realizes being sixteen is not perfect like she imagined, and she has a lot to learn about emoji language, trumpets, driving, boys, make-up, best friends, and even herself.
I read this book in one day because it was so funny, and I wanted to know what happened between Addie and her once-best-friend Grace and also Jacob (a boy she figures out that she likes). In some ways it’s like a mystery as Addie tries to figure out what happened in the four years she skipped.
I think the author wants you to “be careful what you wish for” and also to show you that good friends are more important than style and being cool. A lot of the things Addie thought she wanted when she was younger didn’t work out as she thought they would. For instance, at one point she is dancing with a cute boy, Conor, and she keeps saying the wrong thing and insulting him because she can’t remember the “five rules of flirting”! There are a lot of awkward situations, and the author makes them really funny.
Fans of the movie Freaky Friday will adore this book!
