A Dog Day for Susan

A little boy named Spencer and his dog Barney get a visit from their Great-Aunt Alice and her dog Susan. Susan doesn’t behave like other dogs. Susan is a beautiful and graceful dog, who is allowed to watch TV, eat steak, and needs an umbrella in the rain. Spencer and Barney want to show Susan what is is like to be a dog. They take Susan to the dog park and teach her to run, play, get dirty, and not come when she is called. Susan had a great day acting like a regular dog. Great-Aunt Alice is not happy with Susan being a dirty dog. Susan is brushed to look like a fancy dog again, but Spencer knows the fun Alice is still in there.

I really liked A Dog Day for Susan. I thought it was so funny when Barney was showing Susan how to be a regular dog, barking and chasing things, smelling trash cans, running and playing in the mud. I love this book because I have a dog at home and I think of all the silly, crazy things she does. The illustrations were bright, colorful and added more to the story. I think other kids will love A Dog Day for Susan, especially if they love their pet dogs.
