Persuading Miss Doover
So this book was pretty funny. The story is about persuading. Everything started when Jack persuaded Samir to put a whoopee cushion on Miss Doover’s chair. When they got caught, Samir said, “Jack persuaded me to do it.” Miss Doover explained there was good persuasion and bad persuasion. Then she had the class try to write persuasive papers. Samir really wanted his whoopee cushion back, so he wrote about that. Jack wrote about how he wanted to sit next to Samir again. But Miss Doover was not persuaded by what they wrote and gave them a lot of corrections. Finally Jack wrote a persuasive paper. He said, “You should give us another chance…Miss Doover’s life will be happier if we don’t have to bug her about sitting together.” Miss Doover said, “You win, Jack, I’m persuaded. I’ll give you one more chance.”
I liked the characters in this book. I felt like Jack and Samir were really good friends, and they were really funny. Miss Doover was a very kind, loving, and good teacher. The author was trying to make kids laugh. A funny part was when Jack said, “I’ll die if I can’t sit next to Samir! People will be sobbing at my funeral!” I thought this was a very good educational book. We should be like Jack and keep trying. We should listen to our teacher and make the corrections they ask. This book is really good for kids learning to do persuasive writing. I’m learning persuasive writing, and I thought it was helpful to read this book twice.
