The Day Dad Joined My Soccer Team
This is a fun story about a day a kid’s dad joined his soccer team. The dad was asked to volunteer for his kid’s soccer team but misunderstood that he had been asked to play on the team. The plot was not believable because an adult would not be allowed to play on a kids’ game.
I didn’t get to know the characters well because they weren’t described in much depth. The dialogue seemed unbelievable. I don’t think an adult would say childish things like the dad did in the story. The story delivered the moral: In a game, it isn’t just about winning.
There were many illustrations in this book that were well suited for the story, as they showed how the team played soccer. Some illustrations were funny, e.g. when the kid’s dad put on an ill-fitting uniform, and his belly button showed.
Kids five years and younger who love soccer should read this book. This book would not make a good series because seeing a kid and his dad playing sports is not entertaining in my opinion. I would not recommend this book to kids my age, because the story seemed geared to a younger audience.
