My Awesome Summer by P. Mantis
My Awesome Summer by P. Mantis is the diary of a praying mantis. It starts with her hatching, along with her 150 brothers and sisters. As P. Mantis grows, she shows what she eats, how she sheds her skin, and how she camouflages like a stick for safety. P. Mantis shows that she eats her siblings, bees, and other bugs. She also shows what tries to eat her: birds, spiders, and bats. When the summer is over, P. Mantis lays eggs so that other mantises will hatch in the spring.
I really enjoyed My Awesome Summer by P. Mantis because it taught me about praying mantises. I learned that praying mantises eat their siblings and that they can turn their heads all the way around. The front and back covers are full of more cool facts about the praying mantis. When I opened the book and saw it was written like a diary, I was really excited. I liked the illustrations and feel like it shows me what a praying mantis looks like as it grows. We had a baby praying mantis in my garden one summer and watched it as it grew. It stayed somewhere on the same plant, we just had to search for it every day.
